Inklings from Morgan- May 1-7, 2022- The Butterfly

Happy Beltane, and Happy May, Inked Spirit members! With the energy of the New Black Moon Eclipse in Taurus still with us, this Beltane is a breath of fresh air for many of us. You can start new projects, build strong foundations, or even create a fresh new beginning in some aspect of your life. I have been going through a period of disruption and even destruction for a few months now- not in a bad way, though. It's not self-destruction by any means, but more of like a Tower tarot card situation- old ways, foundations, and practices must be destroyed so that new, stronger ones can be rebuilt. The ride has not been fun- it's been filled with pain, tears, and days where I seriously questioned my own sanity. But that's what happens when major change is occuring within you and within your life. I love sharing the life of the butterfly with people when times get hard, because for me, I have gained so much wisdom and motivation to continue pushing forward by just remembering the butterfly. The butterfly is the ultimate symbol of transformation. It goes through four main life stages: Egg, Larva (Caterpillar), Pupa (Chrysalis), and adult Butterfly. As an egg, the butterfly is attached to a leaf. When it hatches from its egg, it is a tiny caterpillar. As a caterpillar, the butterfly must eat the leaf its egg was attached to, so it can grow big and strong and emerge into the world. To me, this symbolizes creating and utilizing an environment that promotes growth. Surround yourself with people, energies, and tools that support who you are and who you want to become. The third stage is the Pupa, or Chrysalis stage. This is where the magick happens. Once a caterpillar has reached its full size, it forms itself into a pupa or chrysalis. Inside of this little cocoon, metamorphosis occurs. The caterpillar completely breaks down into a mushy goo. Everything that once resembled a caterpillar no longer exists. Instead, the inside of this cocoon is filled with slime that used to be a caterpillar. It is from this slime that the structure of the butterfly is formed, and once it's fully developed, it emerges from the chrysalis as an absolutely beautiful butterfly. From the butterfly's pupa stage, we are reminded that sometimes, in order for something absolutely beautiful to be born, you have to turn into mushy goo first. It is within this mush that a strong, stable foundation is created so that you can emerge as your true self. How fucking amazing is that? And motivational, isn't it? We've all been in the mush stage at least once in our lives, where it seemed like nothing was going according to plan, and the shit was hitting the fan right and left. Now that you know the story of the butterfly, does it make the mush stage just a little less sucky? To know that once you get through this (and you will get through this), that you'll be emerging with a stable foundation, stronger and more beautiful than you ever have before? So, if you are currently in the mush stage, just know that you won't be here forever. Put up pictures of butterflies on your altar or in your sacred space to help remind you that you'll get through this. The beautiful symbolism of the butterfly- I hope it has resonated with you!
