So You Want to Start a Witchy Business... Part 2

Ever wonder what actually separates a witchy business that lasts from one that fizzles out after a year?

You can scroll to the bottom of this post to listen to or watch the full episode.

Running a witchy, spiritual, or metaphysical business is not the same as running any other business. Sure, you still need a solid product, decent marketing, and a handle on your numbers. But if you are building something rooted in witchcraft or spirituality, there are a few extra pieces that matter just as much, and most business advice out there will never mention them.

After 13 years of running Inked Goddess Creations, here are nine (okay, ten) lessons that only make sense once you understand you are running a witchy business.

1. Mindset can take you far.

This is not about manifestation or vision boards, although those have their place. This is about believing in yourself, your product, and the people who are meant to find you. The more you work on your own self-worth and confidence, the more your business grows. That is not a coincidence. When the trolls show up, and they will, your mindset is what lets you flip back into knowing exactly who you are and who you are serving. Failures are not failures either. They are data. A launch flopping does not mean you are a failure; it means something was not aligned.

2. Shadow work is not optional.

If you are scared to show up online because you are scared of getting haters, and you push forward without dealing with that fear first, here is what tends to happen. You post. You get a hater. You tell yourself, "See, I knew this would happen," and you never post again. That is not proof you were right. That is your shadow manifesting the exact scenario it needed to keep you small and safe. Your environment will keep manufacturing these moments until you actually deal with what is underneath them. The fix is not avoiding the trigger; it is doing the work so the trigger stops having power over you.

3. Delusion can also take you far.

Delusion means believing in something so wholeheartedly that there is zero evidence to back it up, and doing it anyway. Every big risk in my business started with exactly that kind of delusion. The subscription box launched in 2016 with no big following and no proof it would work, and it is still going strong ten years later. The witchy advent started with literal overstock sitting in a garage. The Witches' Bazaar began as a vision with no idea if anyone would show up, and the first event had a line out the door for four and a half hours. None of these had a clear path to success on paper. They worked because the delusion was strong enough to carry them there anyway.

4. Intuition can take you even further.

You are a witch. Use it. Build a real connection to your intuition through meditation, card pulling, journaling, whatever works for you, and then actually trust what comes through. Out of over 120 subscription box themes created over the years, dozens came straight from meditation, a vision, or a random moment of clarity while scrolling. That is intuition doing exactly what it is meant to do.

5. You are the product.

People can buy cauldrons or candles or a tarot reading from a hundred different places. So why would they choose you? Because they are not just buying a product, they are buying you. Your energy is tied directly to your business, which means if you show up low, forced, or inauthentic, people will feel it. That does not mean you have to be high vibe every single day. It means understanding that your energy is a business asset, and it deserves to be protected like one.

6. Have a money altar.

You are a witch running a witchy business, so treat it like one. Build a money altar, light a candle on it, and give your business some energetic attention every day. You are not going to see a money altar in a tire shop. Use what makes your business different.

7. Protect and cleanse yourself regularly.

The more visible you become, the more you need this. People are going to dislike you sometimes, and it will not always make sense. It might be your hair, your piercings, your voice, or nothing at all. That is just the internet. The more grounded, cleansed, and protected you stay, the less that noise actually sticks. Skip the cleansing and protecting, and it starts to pile up instead of bouncing off.

8. Keep a pulse on your community.

Know what your people are going through. Know what they are talking about, worried about, and searching for. This is not about taking advantage of anyone; it is about staying close enough to actually serve them well. Sometimes that means catching a trend months before it becomes obvious. Sometimes it means missing the mark entirely, because not every idea lands. Either way, staying plugged in is what makes your content and your products actually resonate instead of just existing.

9. When something sells, duplicate it.

When something works, do it again. And again. A snarky renamed oil once got such a strong reaction that it changed the entire naming direction for a whole product line. If something takes off, lean into it instead of chasing the next shiny idea.

Bonus: Name your business accordingly.

You want the perfect name, but if people cannot pronounce it, cannot Google it, or have no idea what it means, you have branded yourself right out of the conversation. Research your name before you go live with it. Check trademark records. Google everything. And consider putting your own name into your business name somewhere, since that carries built-in trademark protection that a made-up word does not.

Running a witchy business takes more than a good product and a solid business plan. It takes mindset, shadow work, a little delusion, trust in your intuition, energetic protection, and a genuine pulse on your community. Put those pieces together, and you have got something that lasts.
