Trust Your Gut- Building Your Intuition and Psychic Senses
Have you ever had a gut feeling you couldn't explain, ignored it anyway, and regretted it later?
Same. That's basically the whole reason I'm writing this post.
I've talked about my own psychic journey a lot over the years, the wins, the weird moments, the times I second-guessed myself and wished I hadn't. But I've never actually sat down and broken down how any of this works, or how you can start building it for yourself. So that's what we're doing today.
Everyone Is Born With Psychic Ability (Yes, Even You)
Here's where I stand, because I think it matters that you know my starting point before we go any further. I believe every single one of us is born with some form of psychic or intuitive ability. Not a chosen few. Not people with some rare gift. Everyone.
What happens is that somewhere along the way, life teaches us to shut it down. Think back to when you were a kid, or watch a little kid in your life right now. Little kids say things like "I don't like that man" with zero explanation, and adults tell them they're imagining things. Little kids have imaginary friends who feel completely real to them, and we tell them those friends aren't real either.
I saw this firsthand with my own daughter, Skylar. When she was a toddler living in England, she used to run around the house playing with a friend I never once saw. I could have brushed it off the way most of us are taught to. Instead, I let her have it, because I didn't want to be the reason she learned to stop trusting what she was picking up on. I've done the same with both of my kids ever since. If they come to me with something wild, I listen first.
That's the whole thesis of this episode. You're not learning a brand new skill from nothing. You're reconnecting to something that got buried under years of being told it wasn't real.
Is Your Intuition Actually Your Future Self? A Theory Worth Sitting With
There's a school of thought I picked up somewhere along the way that I genuinely love: that your intuition, that gut punch you can't explain, might actually be your future self reaching back to hand you instructions.
I have a personal story that makes me believe it. Years ago, on an early date with someone, a single moment left me nauseous and lightheaded in a way I completely misread at the time. I chalked it up to nerves, even romanticized it. It wasn't until years later, after everything about that person came fully to light, that I understood my body had been screaming a warning my logical brain talked me out of hearing.
So next time your gut nudges you toward or away from something with zero explanation attached, sit with the idea that it might not be random. It might be you, further down the road, trying to help.
The 7 Clair Senses: How to Know Which Psychic Gift Is Yours
Psychic and intuitive information doesn't show up the same way for everyone. In witchcraft and psychic communities, the different channels it travels through are called the clairs, meaning "clear." Most people have one or two that are naturally strongest. As you read through these, pay attention to which ones feel familiar.
Clairvoyance, clear seeing, is receiving information through images, symbols, or visions. This one connects to your third eye chakra, right between your brows.
Clairaudience, clear hearing, is receiving information through sound, whether that's a phrase popping into your head or literally hearing a voice or name. This one is tied to your throat chakra.
Claircognizance, clear knowing, is the sneaky one. No image, no sound, just sudden certainty with zero evidence attached. It's often the hardest to trust because your logical brain wants a reason it simply doesn't give you.
Clairsentience, clear feeling, is probably the most common of all of them. It's the classic gut feeling, butterflies, a heaviness in a room, picking up on someone's energy the second they walk in. This one connects to your sacral chakra, right below your belly button, your literal and energetic gut center. It's also closely tied to empathy; if you feel other people's emotions as if they were your own, this is likely your clair.
Clairalience, clear smelling, is catching a scent with no physical source. Think your grandmother's perfume showing up out of nowhere.
Clairgustance, clear tasting, is experiencing a flavor with nothing in your mouth. This one shows up a lot in mediumship work.
Clairtangency, clear touching, also called psychometry, is picking up information by touching an object with history behind it. I've experienced this myself exactly once, and I still remember it vividly: touching a headboard while furniture shopping and having a full vision of my marriage ending play out in my mind, at a time when things were genuinely good between us.
A couple more chakra connections worth knowing: your crown chakra, at the top of your head, is your connection point for messages from your higher self and guides. And your throat chakra matters no matter which clair is yours, because it's what lets you actually voice or act on what you're receiving. If you ever feel unworthy of having these abilities in the first place, that's a solar plexus conversation, your personal power center.
Daily Practices to Improve Your Intuition
Once you know your clair, here's what actually helps:
- Journaling. Whether that's a formal Book of Shadows practice or just a running log of your hits before you know if you were right, this builds real evidence over time.
- Meditation or quiet-mind time. For me, most of my downloads come in the shower, simply because my brain finally has room to hear something other than itself. Setting aside time to quiet your mind allows you to hear your intuition.
- Body awareness. Your hits will show up physically for you in a consistent way. For me it's my hearing going muffled or my ears ringing right before a message comes through. Learn your own body's signal.
- Daily divination or psychic exercises. This can include tarot- pull a card and sit with your own reaction before you look up the meaning. Pendulum work- a simple way to give your intuition a visible outlet. Charm casting- another tool to add to the rotation.
Doing something every day builds evidence, and evidence is what lets you actually trust yourself again.
