Feral Witchcraft: Embrace Your Authentic Magick

Feral Witchcraft: Embrace Your Authentic Magick

Feral witchcraft is magick defined your way. It’s wild, instinctual, no-fluff, and anti-performative. It’s not about Instagram-worthy aesthetics, but about gut-level connection and unapologetic practice. Don’t get me wrong, feral witchcraft isn’t about being unhinged; it means uncolonized, unfiltered, and fucking free magick.

How is Feral Witchcraft Different?

Unlike some mainstream witchcraft practices—let’s be honest, a big chunk of witchtok—feral witchcraft lacks a hierarchy and isn’t about gatekeeping. Feral witchcraft should never include appropriating from closed practices, but it’s not focused on keeping everything secret either. Share what feels good to share and don’t worry about a pristine altar or aesthetic sacred space…unless that’s what you want.

Feral witchcraft also utilizes what is readily available: dirt from your backyard, breath in your lungs, the storm in your belly, acorns and rocks from your walks, store-bought herbs if you don’t have a green thumb, and 7-day candles from the Dollar Tree in a pinch.

Feral Witchcraft is About Reclaiming Your Instinct & Intuition

Feral witches listen to themselves and feel the magick within. These days, we are taught to disregard our gut instincts and shut out our intuition—even those of us who do not practice witchcraft. Becoming a feral witch is a way to reclaim your true essence from what society tells you about who you should be and what you should do.

And again, it’s not fancy. Maybe it’s whispering your troubles to a tree so nature can deliver the justice you need. Perhaps it’s screaming into the woods or walking barefoot to cast your spells. It’s weaving your magick into your crochet projects and folding it into your recipes in the kitchen. It’s living a magickal life on your terms and as you go about your day-to-day routines.

Write Your Own Rules

You don’t have to follow precise rituals or spell directions if you don’t want to. Chaos creates just as well as order (and can sometimes be more fun, if we’re being honest!). If it works for you, then it works. It’s as simple as that.

Honor who you are and where you live, too. The laundry piles or floors that need sweeping should never be a reason not to practice magick. Feral witches practice when and where they can without striving for perfection.

Rituals for Feral Witches

Want to start practicing your feral magick? Here are a few fun ideas:

·       The Fuck-It Fire Ritual: Write down your “shoulds” and burn them. Burn your self-doubts and your old habits while you’re at it!

·       Storm Soak Spell: Dance in the rain to connect with nature or scream your affirmations into the clouds.

·       Mirror Snarl Glamour: Channel your inner beast by literally snarling at yourself in the mirror before you leave the house for the day. You’ll show up as your fiercest self.

Feral Witchcraft Allows for All Versions of You

Feral witchcraft also embraces the dark, ugly, and “too much” parts of you. Perfection is never a goal in feral magick, and some of the most sacred fuel is rage. Your grief is magickal; your frustrations hold power when channeled through your rituals and spells.

This practice represents a true homecoming and a radical acceptance of your identity as both a human and a witch – embracing both the beautiful aspects and the messy parts alike.

Feral Witches Thrive Together

Look, there are a lot of people out there who will try to gatekeep rituals and keep you to your “lane.” There are even some that will indirectly shame you for being yourself. That’s why a community of feral witches is the best place to hang out and learn. You don’t have to be a lone wolf to be feral. All you have to do is keep yourself from shrinking to fit in.

If you want to be a part of a community where you’re welcome as you are, with every emotion, in real authenticity, and as your goofy/studious/free/serious/whatever self, then the Inked Spirit Coven is for you. It’s a magickal place where you can just be you, receive guidance and mentorship from Morgan, owner of Inked Goddess Creations, and come together in an off-social media community. Learn more here.

Stay magickal,
Megan W.
