Own Your Magick in 2026
In case you need to hear it again, your magick doesn't need anyone's approval. Not your family's, or some book you picked up, or even that witchy influencer with the perfectly curated altar and 500k followers.
2026 is the year you stop borrowing your power from external sources and start claiming full ownership of your magick. Because here's what happens when you truly own your craft: it becomes undeniable, unshakeable, and uniquely, powerfully yours.
What Does It Mean to Own Your Magick?
Owning your magick means you stop asking permission. You stop second-guessing whether you're "doing it right." You stop waiting for validation from books, teachers, or other practitioners before you trust what your intuition is screaming at you.
It means you understand that your relationship with your practice is nobody's business but yours. Your magick works because YOU work it, not because you followed someone else's recipe to the letter.
When you own your magick, you stop being a student forever waiting to graduate and start being the witch you already are.
The Permission You've Been Waiting For
Spoiler alert: you're not getting it, because you don't need it.
You don't need permission to practice magick your own way, mix traditions that speak to you, create your own spells from scratch, change your mind about what you believe, skip the parts of your practice that feel like obligation, call yourself a witch (even if you've only been practicing for a week), trust your gut over the books, or make mistakes and learn from them.
As long as you’re practicing respectfully and not engaging in cultural appropriation, you’re allowed to mix and match your techniques. If you’re an eclectic witch like most of us and not following a specific initiatory path, look to those who have done it before you for guidance, but remember it’s guidance, not a rule.
Reclaim Your Magickal Authority
Think about how much power you've been giving away.
Every time you’ve:
- Questioned your intuition because a book said something different,
- Felt unprepared or like a "baby” witch even after years of practice,
- Apologized for your craft to people who don't understand it
- Dimmed your magick to make others comfortable, or
- Waited for "enough" knowledge before taking action,
You were handing your power to someone else. It’s time to take it back.
Exercise: The Authority Retrieval
Find a quiet moment and ask yourself: "Where have I given my magickal authority away?"
Write down every instance you can remember.
Then, one by one, speak out loud: "I take my power back from [person/book/belief/situation]."
For an added magickal step, burn that shit! It’s time for renewal and to step into the New Year with more passion, authority, and confidence in who you are.
Your Magick, Your Rules
Owning your magick in 2026 means making some concrete decisions about how YOU practice, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
Create Your Personal Magickal Code
What are YOUR non-negotiables in your practice? What feels powerful and true to you?
Some prompts to consider:
- What magickal practices make me feel most alive?
- What "rules" have I been following that don't resonate?
- How do I want to connect with the divine/universe/energy?
- What does sacred space look like for ME?
- What role does ethics play in MY magick?
Write these down. This becomes your magickal code, and nobody gets to amend it but you.
Trust Your Magickal Instincts
Your intuition is the most powerful tool you have. It’s more powerful than any herb correspondence, moon phase, or color magick chart.
When your gut says, "This spell needs rosemary," but the book says, "Use lavender," guess what? Your gut wins. In fact, I encourage you to look up what your gut suggests for spell ingredients because I’d be willing to bet it’s what you actually needed in the moment!
When you feel called to cast a circle differently, even though you "learned" a specific way for casting it, do it your way. When a deity reaches out to you in an unexpected way, trust that over what tradition says "should" happen.
Your instincts have been sharpened by every experience you've ever had. They know things your conscious mind hasn't caught up to yet. Own that knowing.
Stop Defending Your Choices
This one's big: You don't owe anyone an explanation for how you practice.
You don't need to justify why you work with certain deities, your approach to spellwork, what tools you use (or don't use), how you celebrate sabbats (or if you do at all), your relationship with spiritual entities, or whether you're solitary or practice with others.
The next time someone questions your practice, try this: "This is what works for me." Period. Full stop. No justification needed.
Ownership Means Responsibility
Here's the flip side of owning your magick: You're also responsible for it.
You're responsible for your results. If a spell doesn't work, you get to figure out why and adjust. No blaming the universe, the moon phase, or Mercury retrograde (though Mercury can certainly throw us off!). You have the power to troubleshoot and try again. And sometimes, a spell just doesn’t work. The timing, energy, or another factor you don’t even see could be tripping it up.
You're responsible for your ethics and your missteps. Whatever moral framework guides your magick, YOU chose it. Own those choices and their consequences. And if you offend someone or tread into a closed practice unintentionally, you own that too. Make amends and adjust, but don’t let a mistake derail your practice.
You're responsible for your learning. Nobody's going to hand you mastery. You have to seek it, practice it, earn it, even if you go to a priestess or head witch and enter a program or initiation under them. And yes, that includes learning from your mistakes (see the above point).
You're responsible for your growth. If your practice feels stagnant, it’s up to you to shake it up. Try new things. Take risks. Push your boundaries.
And here's the beautiful part: when you accept responsibility, you also claim the credit. Every successful spell? That was YOU. Every moment of profound connection? YOU created that. Every breakthrough? You earned it.
When Doubt Creeps In
Look, you're going to have moments when you doubt yourself. When the old patterns of seeking external validation come crawling back. That's normal.
When that happens, come back to this: Your magick has been working all along. Every synchronicity you've noticed, spell that manifested; every moment you felt connected to something bigger than yourself was all real!
You don't need to be perfect to own your magick. You just need to be willing to claim it, flaws and all.
The Real Secret
Here's what nobody tells you at the beginning: the magick was always yours. You've been powerful this whole time. The books, the teachers, the traditions are tools, resources, guideposts. But the power? That was in you from the start.
Owning your magick in 2026 isn't about becoming something new. It's about remembering what you've always been: a sovereign being with the right to practice, experiment, believe, and create magick on your own terms.
So, stop waiting. Stop seeking permission. Stop making yourself small.
Your magick is yours.
Now go out there and own every single bit of your magickal, powerful, sovereign self. 2026 is yours for the taking.
