Grounding and Centering for the Beginner Witch
Grounding and centering is one of the most important things a witch ought to know, especially since witches often work with energy. The purpose of grounding and centering is to stabilize your energy, draw energy from the Earth, and to bring yourself to a positive state of being. This can be done before and after ritual, or anytime you are feeling upset and need a pick-me-up.
When preparing for ritual, it is good to ground and center to bring yourself to a positive state of being and to draw up energy from the Earth to use in the ritual rather than expending all of your own energy, which could leave you feeling drained. To do this, sit or stand with yourself firmly planted on the ground. Make sure you are breathing deeply. Imagine you have roots coming from the base of your spine if you are sitting or from your feet if you are standing that reach deep into the Earth. Visualize any negative energy flowing down through your roots into the Earth where the energy becomes neutralized. Now, visualize clean, healing Earth energy coming up through your roots and into your body. This energy can fill your entire body, or it can form a ball in your core or center; Whatever feels right for you. Once you feel your energy is stable and you are in a positive state of being, you may stop. You can do this again during the ritual to draw up more Earth energy to put into your spell or whatever your ritual’s purpose is.
After your ritual is complete, you will want to ground and center yourself again to release any excess energy that you raised. Visualize the excess energy flowing down through your roots and back into the Earth. Be careful not to put all of your energy back into the Earth, otherwise you might feel tired and drained.
Whether you are doing a ritual or are in need of a pick-me-up, grounding and centering will stabilize your energy levels and bring you into a positive state of being. You can ground and center no matter where you are; inside or outside. The energy will find its way to and from the Earth, even if you are in an apartment or office building several stories up. All you have to do is just visualize and feel the energy leaving and/or entering your body.
Love and Light and Blessed be!
I am a Pagan Witch who was born in 1996. For most of my life, I never truly felt connected to any of the common religious or spiritual paths. I had my own set of beliefs, but I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. I believed in a God, but also a Goddess, Mother Nature. I researched many Native American religions to try to find one that fit my beliefs. It was not until my God and Goddess brought a very special person into my life that I discovered Paganism and the Craft. She introduced me to this amazing path by confiding in me that she was a Witch and answered every question I had. I dedicated myself at the age of 15 and it was the most amazing thing I ever did for myself.
