Elemental Magick

Elemental Magick

Elemental MagickThe elements are all around us, making them an easy source of magick. Tapping into the energies of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water can help bring different benefits to your practice. Depending on what you need in life or magick, the elements can serve, support, and inspire you. Let’s talk about them!

Before we dive in, there IS a fifth element: Spirit. Spirit possesses characteristics of all the elements: all celestial bodies, all moon phases, it’s multicolored, and so forth. As you learn about the four physical elements, you’ll have a fuller understanding of the fifth. We’re just saving that subject for a later discussion.

Earth

The Earth element provides a grounding, stable energy to your magick, which makes complete sense. You can incorporate Earth magick into your practice when you’re feeling a little too much “up in your head” or during times like Mercury Retrograde, when calm, stabilizing forces will benefit you.

Some of the magickal creatures that resonate with Earth energy include brownies, dryads, elves, fairies, gnomes, and pixies, so when you work with any of these creatures, you’re also working with Earth magick. Goddesses Demeter, Kore, Gaia, Persephone, and Rhiannon are all Earth-aligned goddesses. Dionysus, the Green Man, Pan, and Vishnu all possess Earth energy. Its guiding principle is: To Be Silent.

Air

The Air element encourages movement and creativity. When you’re looking for inspiration, look up! You can even stand outside on windy days to give yourself a boost of this element’s energy. Storm witches often practice magick that closely aligns with this element, and it may also help you with Astral Travel.

If you’re looking for deities that correspond to the Air, Hermes, Mercury, Thoth, Zeus, Amaterasu, Athena, Hera, and Nut are some that resonate with Air energy. Call on the Air when you need clarification in waking moments or with deciphering your dreams. Its guiding principle is: To Know.

Fire

When you want to tap into your passions, Fire magick is the way to go. The Fire element brings a refreshing energy to your practice. When you’re feeling sluggish, you may need more Fire in your life. Dress in the colors of flames – red, orange, yellow, or gold – to add more fiery energy to your day. As far as deities are concerned, Brigid, Freya, Hestia, Pele, Sekhmet, Vesta, Brahma, Hephaestus, Njord, and Prometheus all correspond to Fire.

Interestingly, mermaids and salamanders are great to work with for Fire energy. You can also use your wand to channel Fire energy in spells. Its guiding principle is: To Will.

Water

Mermaids also resonate with Water energy (in addition to Fire), as do norns and undines. The deities Aphrodite, Badb, Isis, Sarasvati, Mabon, and Poseidon all correspond to Water. Call on Water energy when you need strength and balance in your life. Its guiding principle is: To Dare.
